FAQ

FAQ | John Betlem Heating & Cooling Inc.

How often should I have my furnace/air conditioner serviced?

It is recommended that the equipment be cleaned, inspected and tuned annually. This insures that the unit (and associated systems) is safe, operating at maximum efficiency and reduces the probability for breakdown.

How long should my furnace last?

The industry average is about 16 years. Manufacturers design and quality of components, proper sizing and installation and how well the unit is maintained all factor into the life of the equipment.

When should I replace my furnace?

When the cost of a repair is equal to half of the depreciated value of the equipment or when energy efficiency can be improved reducing the cost of comfort by twenty percent or more.

What is the difference between John Betlem Heating & Cooling, Inc. and the "other" Betlem?

John Betlem Heating & Cooling, Inc. is a residential and light commercial comfort company. We have been owned and operated by the Betlem Family for four generations. Although the other Betlem Company was started by a member of the Betlem Family (second cousin) their focus has primarily been commercial buildings. That company has been sold several times (no Betlems there any more) and is currently part of an international conglomerate.

If I have my furnace maintenance service in the spring, will the benefits last through the heating season?

Yes, the maintenance effort benefits will last for the year regardless of when it occurs relative to the heating season. Example: if a furnace was cleaned, inspected and tuned in March or April, it will be ready for the next heating season.

What are the advantages of having a larger heating company do my work rather than a smaller one?

A larger, local company can provide many advantages over a small company. The trick is finding one who values customer service above all else. Larger companies have the depth to provide reliable 24/7 service. Warranty support can also be enhanced by a company with many vendor relationships that have been in place for decades. Factory training as well as in-house training tends to occur in larger, well established companies.

When is the best time of year to buy a furnace or air conditioner?

Great deals for buying a furnace and/or air conditioner can usually be found all year. They come in the form of incentives from energy improvement programs, manufacturers or contractors along with great financing options. Combining the purchase of a furnace and air conditioner will lower labor hours making the complete package purchase less costly than buying separately.
